Choosing a Videographer

Many brides that are seeking to hire a videographer will often choose price & how the video looks as the driving force behind their decision.  In addition to shooting your video with artistic precision and professional video quality, Olean Digital Video will do our absolute best to think of things that will affect your video so you don’t have to.  This helps us deliver good, reliable content to our customers. The price & video quality is obviously important in the decision making process but there are other less obvious aspects of any wedding video that many prospective wedding clients might not ask about.
  1. To start this list we will look at the end, the finished product (most often a DVD).  Back when wedding videos were delivered on VHS tapes the finished product had a much more physical presence and they usually worked (unless the VHS player eats the tape) but sometimes a DVD copy is not so permanent.  That being said… How can you insure that in 10 years you won’t go to play your wedding video and it doesn’t work?
    • What quality of DVD is the person using? Obviously a better quality disc will be more reliable.
    • What kind of after purchase support does a company offer?  This is very important because you want to hire someone who will be around for a while.  We archive all of the videos we make, so I retain copies of all your edited clips.  I just recently upgraded the system I use to create the final DVDs and decided to “remaster” weddings from previous clients as a service to ensure what I mentioned above doesn’t happen. Excellent customer service matters!
    • Are there other ways that you will deliver the edited clips?  I include an extra DVD disc that has all the edited clips as MP4 files.  These files can be copied onto your computer hard drive.
  2. How does a videographer insure everything will record at the wedding?  We use a hard disk recorder on all our cameras as well as recording to a mini-DV tape. Therefore every clip is being recorded to 2 sources, so if one fails we can get the clip from another source.
  3. Audio, Audio, Audio… This is often overlooked by some but is extremely important.  If it sounds bad, it’s bad.  With the new breakthroughs in DSLR cameras many photographers can now shoot video.  One thing that often lacks in this type of situation is they use the standard built mic to capture audio. These mics are often cheap and don’t sound that good.  We will typically use 5 or more microphones during a wedding ceremony.  2 wireless lapel type mics and 3 shotgun mics.  Quality & redundancy is an important issue here.

  • Full coverage of ceremony & reception (3 cameras, 1 videographer) up to 7 hours of coverage. Coverage typically begins 1 half hour before ceremony start time and runs 7 hours from there.
  • 3 packaged DVD copies which include the edited version of ceremony, reception, and 4 minute highlight reel.  Approx. running time of edited movie 2 hours+.
  • Encoding and uploading of highlight video for use on the web (on Facebook or other sites) & also available on most smart phones that play video.
  • All edited clips / files on a separate DVD (MP4 file type)

HIGH DEFINITION (HD) PACKAGE:  $950.00

  • High Definition (HD) 1080p footage
  • Full coverage of ceremony & reception (2 cameras, 2 videographers) up to 7 hours of coverage. Coverage typically begins 1 half hour before ceremony start time and runs 7 hours from there.
  • 3 packaged DVD or Blue-Ray copies which include the edited version of ceremony, reception, and 4 minute highlight reel.  Approx. running time of edited movie 2 hours+.

A $175 deposit is required to reserve a wedding date.

*Pricing covers shooting any wedding that is within 60 miles of Olean, NY (14760). Outside of this distance a mileage rate may be applied. This rate will be quoted prior to any required payment or work being completed.
